Cataluña en bici de montaña

Hace años empezamos a llamarla "mountain bike" por que su origen está en Estados Unidos en los años 70, concretamente en las montañas de California. Era una máquina ligera y multifuncional que derivaba de la bicicleta clásica pero estaba destinada a no erosionar el terreno, como lo hacía la bicicleta de cross, y a no contaminar como la motocicleta.
A España no llegó hasta finales de los años 80 y en menos de 30 años, la BTT (Bicicleta Todo Terreno) se ha implantado como una modalidad deportiva de primer orden.
En 1990, la UCI (Unión Ciclística Internacional), organismo que regula el ciclismo a nivel mundial, lo ha reconocido como deporte oficial, siendo Francia e Italia las potencias mundiales.
El subdirector de la Agència Catalana de Turisme, Patrick Torrent y el técnico de promoción de la Federación Catalana de Ciclismo, Manel Herrando, acaban de presentar en Madrid “TransCatalunya”, una ruta de largo recorrido que enlaza los centros BTT que forman parte de la red de Centres BTT Catalunya. Los diversos itinerarios TransCatalunya están unidos entre sí de manera que permiten recorrer prácticamente toda Cataluña. Toda la ruta suma más de 1.200 km., con desniveles acumulados (subidas) por etapa de entre 40 y 2.800 metros y una duración aproximada de 120 horas. El resultado es un gran itinerario lineal apto para recorrer por etapas. Que puede realizarse con la ayuda de medidores GPS (Global Positioning System) ya que está totalmente “georreferenciada”.
En esta página web se puede descargar los archivos de datos GPS de todos los itinerarios y de cada etapa, así como los mapas con la ruta, ficha técnica y descripción de los recorridos.
TransCatalunya utiliza las amplias posibilidades que ofrece la naturaleza en Cataluña para recorrer en bicicleta caminos de extraordinaria variedad que van del mar a la alta montaña, pasando por valles y llanuras. Un valor paisajístico al que hay que sumar una gran riqueza arquitectónica y cultural que convierte alguno de los trayectos en rutas de enorme interés en todos los sentidos. Así, los ciclistas que se embarquen en la aventura de TransCatalunya podrán descubrir el paisaje del Valle de Arán, dar una vuelta por los impresionantes barrancos de la sierra de Cadí o adentrarse por la Cataluña central en el valle de Sau-Collsacabra. En tierras leridanas, en el Montsec, recorrerán diferentes rutas por los embalses de la Noguera y en la costa del Maresme, muy cerca de Barcelona, podrán trazar un camino entre las ermitas y los caminos del Montnegre.
Los Centros BTT Catalunya son espacios de libre acceso con un mínimo de 100 kilómetros de circuitos señalizados para bicicleta todo terreno. Todos parten de un punto de acogida que ofrece servicios para los ciclistas como sanitarios y duchas y para la bicicleta como parking y alquiler para bicicletas, áreas de lavado o talleres de reparación, entre otros, y que, al mismo tiempo funciona como pequeña oficina de turismo. Es el lugar donde se facilita información turística de la zona, disponible en varios idiomas y información de las rutas del Centro BTT. Catalunya, cuenta actualmente con una red de 17 centros BTT, con 295 rutas de diferente nivel de dificultad y más de 6.200 km señalizados. El proyecto de Centros BTT Catalunya, pionero a nivel estatal, está cogestionado por la Agència Catalana de Turisme, el Consell Català de l’Esport y la Federació Catalana de Ciclisme.
