¿Es verdad que Facebook protege a sus miembros?
A pesar de que el fundador de Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, ha asegurado que esta red social es muy cuidadosa en cuestiones de privacidad, aún me quedan ciertas dudas sobre si se toman realmente controles para dar protección a los usuarios, especialmente a los menores de edad.
El joven Mark, que ha venido a España a ponernos cara o nosotros a él, considera que precisamente el enfoque de privacidad que se ha adoptado desde el principio, basado en controles granulares -como se ha encargado de describir en su multitudinaria rueda de prensa en el hotel Urban de Madrid- es una de las claves del éxito de esta red social, que en España ya cuenta con 1,4 millones de usuarios activos.
Queremos creer que efectivamente estos controles, que el usuario puede utilizar según sus intereses, de manera que puede elegir qué tipo de información quiere o no compartir con los demás, son eficaces y cumplen escrupulosamente con su cometido. Hay una enorme preocupación en la Red sobre si hay seguridad en las redes sociales, si podemos confiar en que la información que allí se deja está bien "custodiada" y si, en definitiva, se toman las medidas necesarias para impedir la violación de derechos fundamentales.
Hace muy pocos días en este mismo blog nos hacíamos eco de un interesante debate en relación a los menores en la Sociedad de la Información.
Porque, sin duda, está muy bien que las redes sociales crezcan -y con ello hagan su negocio-, pero también que los miembros de ellas cuenten con las garantías suficientes de privacidad y seguridad. La confianza es absolutamente esencial para que la gente siga compartiendo informción con los demás y siga dando cuenta de su vida personal en estos espacios virtuales.
Por lo demás, todos contentos y agradecidos con la visita de Mark Zuckerberg, que además nos ha contado cosas importantes sobre la red social.
